Kızıl Ayı (Red Bear in Turkish) is a half-sister to Kara Panter (Black Panther), as they have the same sire in Turkey. Kızıl Ayı is a rough-coat, red fawn Anatolian with a black mask. She comes from the Black Sea area of Turkey near Bartin (almost straight north of Ankara). Her parents are working livestock guardian dogs, living with sheep and going with them to the highlands to graze in the spring, summer, and fall months. Kızıl Ayı is very loving and friendly. She loves to sit for attention and will try for more attention by running around in a circle and then throwing herself into a down position at your feet. She is respectful of your space, waits at the gate without rushing through, and absolutely adores tummy rubs. She is incredibly intelligent and so far is the easiest to train and quickest to learn of all the several dozen Anatolians trained at Shepherds Rest Farm. Kızıl Ayı spends her days and nights guarding goats and watching the older Anatolians do their jobs. She occasionally spends supervised time in the chicken pen. She shares the opportunity with the other Anatolians here of watching the horses and wildlife, including coyotes, living in proximity to Shepherds Rest Farm. They all do such a great job that the coyotes, who are still alive, know our farm boundaries and do not dare to cross over!
