Kara Panter greeted me from her crate with much tail-wagging and enthusiasm. When removed from her crate, she was a 21 lb wiggle of kisses. On the ground, she responded to her new collar and leash with roly-poly interest. She was contentedly quiet on the long drive home after her exercise, meal, and attention. Introductions to her new goat herd were accomplished with the important belly-down approach. This occurred mostly through the fence of her adjacent new home where she begins her training with the new flock, direct contact under immediate supervision only. After an unanticipated violent butt by a previously easy-going goat, we will work slower on introductions to establish the best bonding with the appropriate amount of vigilance by pup to goat behavior and communications.

Kara Panter was born on a sheep farm near Bartin, Turkey. Her working parents are both long-coated and mostly dark in color, and are from the mountainous eastern Black Sea region, where Anatolians of that subtype are disappearing and difficult to find. Kara Panter is one of three surviving puppies in a litter of 8 puppies. She has a sister and a brother in Turkey. When I met her mother, Jaguar, in Turkey a couple years ago, I immediately fell in love with her, both looks and personality. Her face, head, and coat remind me of pictures of Turkish shepherd dogs with their flocks in very old photos from primitive regions. Due to my established relationship with the breeder and having spent time in Turkey with him and his family three separate times, the breeder was willing to share his best dogs with me. Shepherds Rest is honored and proud to have Kara Panter to preserve this endangered bloodline.
